Foreign secretary changed ahead of Oli’s China visit

KATHMANDU: Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal has been transferred to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) ahead of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s visit to China.

Sources say Oli is preparing to appoint Joint Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai as Acting Foreign Secretary and take him to Beijing.

A cabinet meeting held on Thursday decided to transfer Secretary Lamsal to the OPMCM.

Lamsal has already been recommended as Nepal’s ambassador to the European Union (EU) and is in the final stages of appointment. Although agreemo is needed for EU ambassadorial appointments, the government has not proceeded with her appointment.
