KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated Afghanistan 2-0 in an international friendly in Dushanbe of Tajikistan on Saturday.
Nepal lost to Tajikistan 0-4 in the first friendly match on Wednesday.
Although the first half on Saturday ended in a goalless draw, Nepal scored two goals in the second half to end a nine-match winless streak.
Gillespye Jung Karki broke the deadlock early in the second half to give Nepal the lead. Rohit Chand scored his first goal in national colors in the 78th minute to double Nepal’s advantage.
Afghanistan missed an opportunity to reduce the deficit as Captain Kiran Chemjong made a crucial save in the 87th minute.
Nepal had met Afghanistan six times before this match on Saturday – winning three, drawing two, and losing one.
Nepal will next compete in the third round of Asian Cup qualifiers in March 2025.
