KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index closed trading at 2,748.96 points, logging a nominal loss of 11.24 points on Tuesday.
Although trading opened on an upbeat note with the benchmark index advancing firmly toward the psychological 2,800-point level, it started falling after the first hour, eventually ending the session 0.4% lower.
Daily turnover also fell on the bourse as only Rs 7.85 billion worth of securities changed hands during the session. The number of transactions also dropped to 82,570.
Share prices of 157 companies declined on Tuesday, while 80 advanced and seven remained unchanged.
Among trading groups, only three sub-indices posted gains. Ten other sub-indices ended the session in red. The biggest gain came from the Finance sub-index, which was up by 1.12%. Similarly, the Others sub-index logged the highest loss of 1.18%.
Goodwill Finance Ltd registered the highest turnover on Tuesday with Rs 292.86 million worth of shares traded. Next were Best Finance Company Ltd and Ankhu Khola Jalvidyut Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 292.56 million and Rs 255.94 million, respectively.
