KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has selected companies to build 64 solar power projects across the country as per its energy mix concept.
The utility awarded the projects through competitive bidding. NEA has said that it decided to implement the energy mix concept to meet winter energy demands through solar projects.
These projects will generate a combined 974 MW of solar power. The installed capacity of these projects range from 1 MW to 50 MW, while the quoted tariff ranges from Rs 4.99 to Rs. 5.55 per unit. NEA will purchase power generated by these projects from 6 am to 6 pm.
NEA plans to meet its daytime power demands through solar energy, while evening and night demands will be met through hydropower projects. According to NEA officials, the utility decided to go for solar projects as it would take years to build hydropower projects.
These solar projects are expected to begin generation within one and a half years.
