KATHMANDU: Nepal and Scotland shared points in the final match of the US tri-series of the ICC World Cricket League (WCL) 2, which was abandoned due to inclement weather after just six overs.
The match was halted when Nepal, batting first after losing the toss at the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas, had scored 26 runs for the loss of one wicket in six overs. Play was suspended due to a storm threat in Dallas.
Nepal ended the tri-series with three out of a possible eight points. While Nepal lost both matches against the US, it won its first match against Scotland, with the second being washed out. Scotland, on the other hand, won both of its matches against the US.
Following this tri-series, Nepal sits seventh on the eight-team table, with six points from 12 matches. Only the UAE, with four points from nine matches, is below Nepal in the standings.
The US leads the WCL 2 table with 16 points from 12 matches, while Canada also has 16 points from 12 games but ranks lower due to an inferior run rate.
About WCL 2
The 2024–2026 WCL 2 is the second edition of the league which is a part of the qualification process for the 2027 Cricket World Cup. In addition to Nepal, Scotland, and the US, other teams in WCL 2 include Canada, Namibia, the Netherlands, Oman, and the UAE.
Canada was promoted to WCL 2 after winning the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off, while Papua New Guinea, which finished last in the previous WCL 2, was relegated to the Challenge League.
According to the ICC, the top four teams from WCL 2 will advance to the World Cup Qualifier. Four additional teams will join through the Qualifier Play-Offs, while teams not qualifying automatically based on ICC ODI rankings will also participate in the Qualifier.
WCL 2 will feature a total of 144 matches across 24 tri-series.
