KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs, Ramesh Lekhak, said Nepali Congress (NC) Vice President Dhanraj Gurung will also be investigated for his alleged role in the misappropriation of cooperative deposits.
Talking to journalists in Pokhara on Wednesday, Lekhak said the investigation would be based on facts and evidence, not personal considerations.
Dhanraj’s wife Jyoti has been accused of misappropriating deposits from Miteri Saving and Credit Cooperatives. Dhanraj, however, has been maintaining that he has already divorced Jyoti and that he cannot be held accountable for her wrongdoings.
“Action will be taken against Dhanraj if evidence shows he was engaged in illegal activities,” Lekhak said.
Minister Lekhak is also from the Nepali Congress party.
Lekhak added that Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President and former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Rabi Lamichhane, is under investigation on the basis of the parliamentary special investigation committee’s report.
