POKHARA: Former Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal, says he has seen no possibility of the party uniting with CPN-UML.
Speaking at a press meet in Pokhara on Monday, Nepal said while they were positive for unity with like-minded parties, circumstances were not conducive for unity with the Maoists and unity with UML was unimaginable. “I haven’t sworn never to unite with UML, but I don’t see it as a possibility,” Nepal said.
Criticizing UML Chairperson and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Nepal said he does not think Oli will ever correct himself. “I would be happy if he changed himself,” he added.
Nepal also said there should be no leniency for individuals involved in large-scale cooperative frauds. “In this cooperative fraud case, whoever is guilty should not be granted immunity,” he added.
Expressing sympathy for the cooperative fraud victims, Nepal said the government should immediately conducive environment for the return of their money.
While stressing that victims must receive justice and perpetrators should not escape, he said no action should be taken based on political prejudice.
Nepal was referring to the arrest of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President and former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Rabi Lamichhane, who is in the custody of Kaski police for the past 10 days for an investigation into a cooperative fraud case.
