KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) should be kept free from political interference.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the Annual General Meeting and Global Conclave of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) in Kathmandu on Sunday, Oli said that he has long advocated for keeping the NRNA free from political interference and manipulation. “The government is ready to provide all possible support to the NRNA. We will not interfere in the recent disputes within the organization,” he added.
Oli also urged NRNA representatives and members to move forward with unity. He stated that the government is prepared to facilitate the smooth implementation of non-resident citizenship. Stating that the provisions for non-resident Nepali citizenship are enshrined in the constitution, he said the government remains committed to implementing these provisions.
According to the NRNA, the Global Conclave, which will continue until Monday, will hold discussions on infrastructure development for Nepal’s economic transformation, non-resident Nepali citizenship, voting rights for NRNs, and climate change, among other issues.
Likewise, the empowerment of diaspora youth for nation-building; ensuring safe, organized, and dignified foreign employment with social security; and promoting tourism in Nepal are other agenda items for discussion at the conclave.
Representatives from more than 60 countries are expected to participate in the event.
