RSP making mockery of rule of law: NC Nepali Congress Central Party Office

KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has accused the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) of undermining and making mockery of the rule of law.

Issuing a statement, the chief of the party’s Publicity Department, Min Bishwakarma, expressed objection to the non-cooperation of RSP leaders and workers with judicial processes following the arrest of their President Rabi Lamichhane.

“While it is the duty of everyone to cooperate with investigations and judicial processes when accused of any offense, political parties bear an even greater responsibility. However, the activities being carried out in the name of the RSP have undermined and mocked the Nepali people’s desire to maintain the rule of law,” Bishwakarma added in the statement.

RSP President Rabi Lamichhane was arrested from Kathmandu on Friday and taken to Pokhara for an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of deposits from Suryadarshan Saving and Cooperatives. RSP leaders and cadres have taken to the streets to protest Lamichhane’s arrest.

“The unruly protests and street demonstrations by Lamichhane’s supporters are attempting to influence the preliminary investigation of the judicial process. The NC is concerned about these improper activities that create undue pressure by intimidating neutral state bodies,” the statement added.
