KATHMANDU: Bodies of five Russian climbers who died during their ascent of Mt Dhaulagiri last week have been brought to Kathmandu.

A rescue team of Seven Summit Treks had recovered the bodies and brought them to Italian Base Camp. The bodies were then carried from the Italian Base Camp to TU Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu, according to DSP Bharat Shrestha, the chief of the District Police Office, Myagdi.

The Russians, who were climbing the mountain alpine style without a fixed rope fell to 7,100 meters while traversing a difficult section at around 7,600 meters, according to Pemba Zangbu Sherpa of I Am Trekking & Expedition – the handling agency of the expedition.

The five – Alexander Dusheyko, Oleg Kruglov, Vladimir Chistikov, Mikhail Nosenko and Dmitrii Shpilevoi – were the climbing members of the second team of the 14-member Russian expedition.
