WALING: Eleven additional post offices in Syangja have been closed. These offices have been permanently closed as per the Additional Post Office (Fifth Amendment) Regulations, 2023

Guru Prasad Marasini, the chief of the District Post Office, Syangja informed that out of the 53 additional post offices in the district, 11 have now been closed. He said that the government’s policy of gradually retiring employees who reach 58 years of age and automatically abolishing those positions has led to the closure of these additional post offices.

“These post offices typically have three types of employees: postal representatives, mail carriers, and distributors. According to the policy, when the active employees reach 58 years of age, such post offices are automatically closed. That’s why 11 additional post offices here have been closed,” he said. “In most additional post offices, one or two people under 58 have been providing services. Once they reach 58, those services will also automatically cease.”

The closed additional post offices include Pauwegaund in Putalibazar-5, Kwami in Chapakot-8, Khilung Deurali in Bhirkot-6, Eladi in Waling-4, Chilaunebas in Aandhikhola-2, Nibuwabot in Aandhikhola-5, Mattikhan in Fedikhola-2, Chitrebhanjyang amd Magyam in Harinas Rural Municipality, Birgha in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-4, and Pakawadi in Chapakot-1.

Since the regulations came into effect, 69 employees working in additional post offices in Syangja have already received mandatory retirement.

“There are now 42 additional post offices remaining in various locations in Syangja. As the employees there reach 58 years of age and no new appointments are made, these offices will gradually be closed,” said Marasini.
