UML starts construction of office building on land donated by Bhat-Bhateni owner

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli laid the foundation stone for the party’s new central office building at Kirtipur, Kathmandu, on Friday.

UML has decided to build its central party office at Maitrinagar in Ward No. 2 of Kirtipur Municipality. According to the party, the new party office will be built on 10 ropani and 14 ana of land donated by Min Bahadur Gurung and Savitri Gurung – the owners of Bhat-Bhateni Supermarket chain.

UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel said the party is building a state-of-the-art building. The building’s cost and detailed plans are still in the preparation stage, he added.

Party leaders said UML decided to build a new office building as the existing central party office was damaged by recent floods.

Gurung said he decided to donate the land to UML because of his long-standing closeness to the UML. He also mentioned that he has been supporting other political parties as well.

Gurung informed that the building would be constructed within a year and handed over to the party by Ghatasthapana (the first day of Dashain festival) next year.
