Nepse gains 44.45 points after two days of losses

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index gained 44.45 points and closed trading at 2,508.86 points on Monday.

The Nepse index remained in green territory for most of the session, gaining 1.8% to close above the psychological 2,500-point level.

Daily turnover, however, dropped to Rs 3.71 billion—the lowest since July 1, when Rs 2.91 billion worth of shares were traded.

Unit prices of 210 scrips advanced on the day, while 33 declined and one remained unchanged. CEDB Hydropower Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of Rs 176.96 million. Sarbottam Cement and Shivam Cement followed with Rs 171.55 million and Rs 153.37 million worth of shares traded, respectively.

Except for the Mutual Fund sub-index, which recorded a marginal drop of 0.6%, all other sub-indices ended higher on the second trading day of the week. The biggest gain came from the Finance sub-index, which was up by 4.19%. Manufacturing & Processing and Hotels & Tourism sub-indices followed, rising by 3.83% and 3.28%, respectively. The market heavyweight Banking group also rose by 1.18%.

A total of 9.71 million units of shares were traded on the bourse through 50,680 transactions on Monday.
