KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has recommended to the government to hold the local body by-elections on December 1.
A delegation of the EC, led by Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and proposed that the government hold the by-elections on December 1.
In response, Oli said the government would study the EC’s recommendation and fix the date at the earliest.
A total of 41 positions, including chiefs of two District Coordination Committees, are lying vacant across the country. The by-election is being held to fill these positions for the remainder of their terms.
