Nepse down 55.86 points; turnover at Rs 9.43 billion

KATHMANDU: The market extended its loss for a fourth straight session as the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index closed 55.86 points lower at 2,646.03 points on Monday.

With this, the benchmark index has lost 184.17 points over the past four sessions. This is the longest losing run in the secondary market since March 21, when the market snapped a five-day losing streak.

Share prices of 222 companies declined on the day, while 22 advanced. CEDB Hydropower Development Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with shares worth Rs 370.05 million traded on Monday. Next were Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and Hathaway Investment Nepal Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 279.41 million and Rs 239.27 million, respectively.

All trading groups ended the session in the red on Monday. The biggest loss came from the Hotels & Tourism sub-index which was down by 2.67%. Next were the Life Insurance and Non-life Insurance sub-indices, with losses of 2.49% and 2.44%, respectively. The market heavyweight Banking sub-index also fell by 2.28%.

Securities worth Rs 9.43 billion were traded on the bourse through 111,986 transactions on Monday.
