KATHMANDU: The government has appointed Ek Narayan Aryal as the new Chief Secretary.

A cabinet meeting held on Thursday decided to appoint Secretary Aryal to the position, according to a minister.

Aryal is currently serving as the Secrtary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. He will replace Chief Secretary Liladevi Gadtaula who is retiring on age grounds on Friday.

Chief Secretary Gadtaula will hand over the responsibility to Aryal amid a ceremony on Friday.

Aryal was picked for the position despite being fourth in the seniority of government secretaries. The government has to pick the Chief Secretary from among the serving secretaries based on seniority and performance, as per the Civil Service Act, 1992.

Meanwhile, the cabinet meeting also decided to appoint Dinesh DC as the Chairperson of the Nepal Film Development Board. The position was lying vacant after Bhuwan KC completed his term on July 27.
