KATHMANDU: Late Nepali Congress (NC) leader Pradeep Giri’s wife Bharati Silwal on Tuesday complained that NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba has not returned her book.
Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Tuesday on Giri’s 2nd death anniversary, Silwal said Deuba took the book right after he returned from London. “He had just returned from London. I don’t know if he remembers. We were living in Thapathali at that time,” she said. “When he was leaving, he took a book by J Krishnamurti without my permission. I think it was (The First &) Last Freedom.”
She recalled that even though she had requested him not to take the book, her husband Pradeep asked her to let Deuba take it. “I told my husband Deuba might not return it. But he assured me that Deuba would, and told me to let him take the book.”
Siwal said she was still waiting for Deuba to return the book. “He has become Prime Minister five times. There is a possibility of him becoming Prime Minister for the sixth time,” she said. “He hasn’t returned my book. I am still waiting for that book.”
Later Deuba said that he does not remember taking that book. “The book may have helped me though. I want to thank her,” he added.
