KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) posted gains of 43.05 points to close trading at a 35-month high of 3,000.81 points on Thursday. The benchmark index has added 690.22 points since the beginning of the new fiscal year on July 16.
The bourse posted an all-time high turnover of Rs 29.95 billion as banking stocks rallied on the last trading day of the week. Nepal Investment Bank Ltd, NMB Bank Ltd and Global IME Bank Ltd traded at the positive circuit level of 10% during the session. Himalayan Bank Ltd, Machhapuchhre Bank Ltd and Kumari Bank Ltd saw their share prices appreciate by over 8%.
Share prices of 106 companies advanced on the day, while 136 declined and one remained unchanged.
Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd continued to log the highest turnover on the bourse with Rs 913.32 million worth of shares traded. Sanima Mai Hydropower Ltd and Api Power Company were next with turnovers of Rs 832.38 million and Rs 650.09 million, respectively.
Among trading groups, Banking recorded the highest gain of 5.65%. Next were Investment and Mutual Fund sub-indices with gains of 2.69% and 2.28%, respectively.
A total of 68.98 million units of shares were traded on the secondary market through 311,536 transactions. Market capitalization hit a record high of Rs 4.76 trillion on Thursday.
