KATHMANDU: A book based on the life of late politician Ratna Prasad Kharel was launched in Kathmandu on Sunday.
Senior Advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari, senior lyricist Yadav Kharel, former minister Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani, former Chancellor of Nepal Academy Ganga Prasad Upreti, educationist Dr Jaya Raj Acharya, Chairperson of Lekhan Kunja Kamal Dhakal, and Ratna Prasad’s daughters Dr Rama Kharel and Roshani Kharel jointly launched the book titled
‘Nishkam Karmayogi Ratna Prasad Kharel’ (Selfless Worker Ratna Prasad Kharel).
Senior Advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari remembered Ratna Prasad as a liberal politician. Commenting on the book, Dr Jaya Raj Acharya said that Ratna Prasad’s speeches in the National Panchayat remain relevant even today. He highlighted Ratna Prasad’s efforts to raise awareness about the hardships faced by Nepali youth abroad. Dr. Acharya suggested that current ministers, MPs, and leaders should read Ratna Prasad’s biography.
Similarly, Dr Ram Thapaliya described Ratna Prasad Kharel as an intellectual and visionary leader. Likewise, Ratna Prasad’s nephew and senior lyricist, Yadav Kharel, shared personal memories and praised the publication of the book as a great tribute.
Former minister Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani, who shared time in prison with Ratna Prasad, remembered him as a true patriot.
On the occasion, Ratna Prasad’s daughters, Rama and Roshani, recalled their father’s political, social and familial contributions.
Meanwhile, the Kharel family has established an endowment fund of Rs 1 million to honor individuals who have made significant contributions in various fields.
The book, priced at Rs 650, was published by Lekhan Kunja and edited Arjun Dhungana and Dr. Rama Kharel.
