KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index posted a marginal loss of 5.29 points, closing the last trading day of the week at 2,755.29 points on Thursday.
Although the benchmark index breached the psychological 2,800-point mark, reaching an intraday high of 2,805.57 points, it erased all the gains and eventually ended in the red.
Share prices of 164 companies declined on the day, while 74 advanced and three remained unchanged. Share prices of five companies, including four hydropower companies, hit the positive circuit of 10% during the session.
Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with shares worth Rs 522.76 million traded. Next were CEDB Hydropower Development Company Ltd and Nepal Infrastructure Bank Ltd with turnovers of Rs 401.79 million and Rs 381.08 million, respectively.
Among trading groups, six sub-indices posted losses while seven ended in the red. The biggest gain came from the Life Insurance sub-index, which was up by 3.69%, while the biggest loss was recorded by the Trading sub-index (-3.54%).
Shares worth Rs 18.46 billion were traded on the bourse on Thursday through 197,023 transactions.
