KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist) held elections on Wednesday to select more than 1,400 representatives for its upcoming general convention.

According to Damodar Aryal, the deputy chief of the party’s Central Publicity Department, a total of 146,714 members voted peacefully to elect general convention representatives.

As per the party’s statute, a total of 1,489 representatives will be elected including women and Dalits. This number also includes 346 central committee members and 104 members from the central election commission, central discipline commission and central account commission.

The Unified Socialist is set to hold its general convention in Kathmandu from June 30 to July 4. The convention will elect a new executive committee and determine its official policies and programs.

The party had instructed all its units to elect representatives for the general convention on Wednesday.

Aryal said that all units will forward the names of their elected representatives to the center by Friday.

Although the Unified Socialist was formed by leaders who split from the CPN-UML three years ago, the upcoming general convention is being organized as the 10th General Convention.
