Nepse extends losses for third straight day; down by 18.76 points

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losses for a third straight session, losing 18.76 points to close trading at 2,076.49 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark index witnessed a sharp fall right after trading began on Tuesday. Although the index made recovery attempts, it fell further to eventually end the session 0.89% lower.

All trading groups ended the day in the red. The highest loss came from the market-heavyweight Banking sub-index, which was down by 1.16%. Next were the Finance and Life Insurance sub-indices with losses of 1.04% and 0.98%, respectively.

Share prices of 198 companies fell on the day, while 40 advanced and nine remained unchanged. Barun Hydropower Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session, with shares worth Rs 112.79 million traded. CEDB Hydropower Company Ltd and NRN Infrastructure and Development Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 111.39 million and Rs 103.75 million, respectively.

Daily turnover in the bourse fell to Rs 4.03 billion compared to Rs 5.42 billion on Sunday. The number of transactions also fell to 57,632 compared to Sunday’s 71,481.
