KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is leaving for New Delhi on Sunday to attending the swearing in ceremony of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India for a third term.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has confirmed the visit. Issuing a statement, MoFA said Prime Minister Dahal will be accompanied by his daughter Ganga, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri and high-ranking government officials. He is scheduled to return on Monday.

An official at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi said that a meeting between Prime Minister Dahal and Prime Minister Modi is scheduled for Sunday after Modi is sworn in.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -led National Democratic Alliance secured 292 out of 543 seats in India’s Lok Sabha in the 2024 general election, as per the election results announced on June 4. Although BJP failed to get a majority, Modi is forming the new government with NDA’s backing

Who else is attending?

Along with Prime Minister Dahal, the Indian government has sent invitations to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bhutan Prime Minister Lotay Tshering, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu.

Likewise, Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and Seychelles Vice President Ahmed Afif will also attend the swearing-in ceremony.
