KATHMANDU: Nepal is opening its 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign by playing against the Netherlands in Dallas, US, on Tuesday evening.
This match is crucial for both sides as each will be looking to secure their first win in a group that includes three Test-playing nations: Sri Lanka, South Africa, and Bangladesh.
Nepal arrived in the US about a month ago to acclimatize to the conditions. They also went to the Caribbean and played a three-match series with the Windward Volcanoes, which they won 2-1. They also won the two-match series against the Houston Hurricanes 2-0.
Nepal, however, suffered a defeat against Canada in the first official warm-up match, while the second match against the US was washed out.
The Netherlands, on the other hand, seems to be in great shape as they defeated Sri Lanka in their first official warm-up match. Their second warm-up match was also washed out.
Nepal and the Netherlands have played 12 T20 matches since 2015. Nepal was victorious in five of them, while the Netherlands won six. One match did not produce a result.
Nepal Captain Rohit Paudel said they want to begin the campaign with a victory. “Both teams will be starting from the same line; whoever plays the better cricket is going to win,” Paudel said in the pre-match conference. “We are well prepared for the game and all of us are looking forward to executing the plan.”
This is the first time that Nepal is playing in the T20 World Cup since 2015
