KATHMANDU: Police have arrested seven individuals, including a minor, for an investigation into the murder of traffic police personnel Yuvaraj Ghimire.
The lifeless body of Ghimire, who was deployed at the Traffic Police Office in Durbar Marg, was found at an under-construction house in Hariyochaur in Manmaiju of Tarakeshwar-9, Kathmandu, on Friday.
The arrested individuals are Sachin Pariyar of Changu Narayan-1, Bhaktapur; Anjali Shrestha of Dupcheshwar, Nuwakot; Basundhara Karki and Nunamaya Karki of Andhikhola Rural Municipality, Syangja; Buddh Lama Tamang of Okhare, Tadi-4, Nuwakot; Amrit Tamang of Indrawati-1, Sindhupalchowk; and a 13-year-old boy.
Police had to fire a warning shot in the air when the suspects tried to flee in the Nagarjun forest.
According to SSP Basanta Rajaure, chief of the District Police Range in Kathmandu, Sachin has told police that he was angry with Ghimire, who had teased Anjali, Sachin’s partner, at an eatery. “Sachin then asked Ghimire to drop them home on his motorbike. When the trio reached the under-construction house in Hariyochaur, Sachin’s friends, who had already assembled at the place, attacked Ghimire,” Rajaure added.
