KATHMANDU: The 2024 Nepal Investment Summit is kicking off in Kathmandu on Sunday with the aim of bringing in foreign direct investment, establishing industries and factories, and implementing economic development projects.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is scheduled to inaugurate the summit which will showcase 151 projects worth Rs 900 billion before the investors.
According to the Nepal Investment Board, which is functioning as the Secretariat of the summit organizing committee, over 1,600 investors from more than 55 countries will participate in the summit. The summit venue will have 23 exhibition stalls with detailed information about the projects being presented for investment, and calls for expressions of interest will be made for 19 projects.
The first day of the summit will feature the inaugural session and two main sessions. Likewise, there will be 11 parallel sessions on the second day.
Investors can also meet the Prime Minister and the Minister for Finance.
The inaugural session will feature addresses by Investment Summit Steering Committee Coordinator and Finance Minister Arjun Prasad Pokharel, former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, UK Minister of State for Asia-Pacific Affairs Anne-Marie Trevelyan and Minister of State for African Development Affairs Andrew Mitchell, UNCTAD Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan, and Chairman of the Chinese International Development Cooperation Agency Lu Zhaohui.
The summit will also feature addresses by ADB Vice President Yeong Ming Yang, Acting Vice President of AIIB Rajat Mishra, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of ITC Limited India Supratim Dutta, and Senior Vice President of the US Chamber of Commerce Atul Keshap.
Additionally, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries Rajesh Kumar Agrawal, President of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal, Chairman of the Indian company Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited Sushil Sharma, and CEO of the Investment Board Sushil Bhatta will provide information on investment opportunities in Nepal, potential returns, and comparative advantages for investment.
