West Indies A series has opened doors for exciting cricketing ties: CAN

KATHMANDU: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Secretary Paras Khadka has said that the series against West Indies A has opened up doors for a lot of opportunities for exciting cricketing ties in the future.

“It took a lot of effort for us to get this series up and functioning. We are very grateful towards the West Indies Cricket Board because this series wouldn’t have been possible without their support,” Khadka said at a press meet organized in Kathmandu on Friday.

Khadka also said that the series would be a fantastic preparation platform for Nepal ahead of the T20 World Cup. “It will be the last series for us to select our final squad as well. So, this series will be really important for Nepali players,” he added.

West Indies A Captain Roston Chase said that the Nepal tour will be an opportunity for West Indies A players to put on some good performances and impress the selectors to book a place in the T20 World Cup squad. “I have learned that limited slots are available in the World Cup squad. But boys will be looking to make their mark,” he added.

West Indies A Head Coach Floyd Reifer said they were in Nepal to play some good cricket. “Obviously, the conditions here are a bit different from what we are accustomed to. But the boys are really looking forward to these five games. These games offer us preparation. Also, it is an opportunity to play against some of the associate players and help develop Associate cricket,” he added.

Nepal Coach Monty Desai said he was hopeful that the friendship between the two teams would be strong so that they can keep playing series against each other in the future as well. “This growth and development are what we are always looking for,” he added.

Likewise, Captain Rohit Poudel said Nepali players have moved forward from the result in Oman and were looking forward to the series. “We are very excited for this series. This is going to be one of the best teams that we have ever played,” Poudel said. “Everyone is very excited ahead of the World Cup.”

Meanwhile, Nepal has added four more players from the Nepal A team to its squad for the series with West Indies A. Kamal Singh Airee, Lokesh Bam, Binod Bhandari, and Sagar Dhakal have been included in the team, according to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).
