KATHMANDU: The government has decided to recommend to the President to appoint Dr Anjan Shakya as a member of the National Assembly.
A cabinet meeting held on Friday took the decision, according to government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma.
The post of one of the three members to be appointed by the President on the recommendation of the cabinet is lying vacant after Bimala Rai Poudyal completed her six-year term in March.
Dr Shakya is close to CPN-UML. She earlier served as the Executive Director of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and Nepal’s ambassador to Israel.
The meeting also decided to prorogue the winter session of parliament.
Likewise, the cabinet has formed a committee to recommend chairpersons and office-bearers of two transitional justice commissions – Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons.
The government earlier in January extended the term of the two commissions by six months until mid-July.
