KATHMANDU: The Gandaki Province Government has decided to split ministries to make more room for ministers from the ruling coalition partners.
A cabinet meeting held on Tuesday decided to split two ministries, according to Hari Bahadur Chuman, the spokesperson for the provincial government.
This has increased the number of ministries to nine.
According to Chuman, two new ministries – the Ministry of Health and the Ministry for Internal Affairs – have been created. The cabinet decided to split the Ministry of Social Development and Health, while it decided to create a separate internal affairs ministry. Internal affairs was being handled by the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers.
Khagaraj Adhikari of CPN-UML was appointed Chief Minister of Gandaki on April 7. However, his appointment has been challenged at the Supreme Court. Following a preliminary hearing on a writ petition against the government formation process in Gandaki, the apex court has issued an order to the Gandaki government to not take any decision that could have long-term long-term impacts.
Adhikari had included the support of the Speaker while staking his claim to form government in the province.
Similarly, the Gandaki Province Government has appointed Krishna Adhikari of Lamjung as the Chief Attorney.
