KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Center) has announced Narayan Dahal as its candidate for the position of National Assembly chairperson.
A meeting of the party’s office-bearers held on Sunday took the decision.
Dahal is the brother of Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson, Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Similarly, Nepali Congress (NC) has selected Yubaraj Sharma as its candidate for the position. A meeting of the NC’s parliamentary party held on Sunday afternoon took the decision.
The ruling coalition partners, Maoist Center and CPN-UML, have agreed to share the positions of chairperson and vice-chairperson of the National Assembly among them. As per the understanding, National Assembly Vice Chairperson Urmila Aryal, who is from the Maoist Center, will have to step down.
As per the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, one of the chairperson and vice-chairperson positions should be held by a woman.
