KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center) has initiated discussions on its draft statute.
CPN (Maoist Center) Vice President and Coordinator of the Statute Drafting Committee presented the draft statute during the standing committee meeting held on Friday, as per party spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota.
General Secretary Dev Prasad Gurung, Deputy General Secretaries Giriraj Mani Pokharel, Barsha Man Pun, and Janardan Sharma, Secretaries Ganesh Sah and Ram Karki, along with Standing Committee Member Shashi Shrestha, shared their views on Friday.
“Most of the leaders who commented on the draft statute emphasized establishing socialist norms, values, and ideals in the statute. They also said socialist ideology should be reflected in the statute,” Sapkota said. “They also suggested that party committees should be small and streamlined, and the size of the central committee should be reduced to 151. However, these issues can only be addressed during the statute convention.”
Sapkota added that the standing committee discussed theoretical and policy-wise aspects of the draft statute. The meeting will continue on Saturday as well.
The Maoist Center is convening its central committee meeting on Sunday and Monday to further discuss the draft statute. The party is scheduled to hold its statute convention on February 13-15.
