POKHARA: Church Boys United Club has entered the semifinal of the 23rd Aha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup, defeating Nepal Police Club 1-0 at the Pokhara Stadium on Tuesday.
Samir Gurung scored the only goal of the match in the 72nd minute to take the ‘A’ Division League champion to the last four. Gurung beat opponent defenders and scored in the empty net, taking advantage of the misunderstanding between Nepal Police keeper Shatrughan Chaudhary and defender Dipendra BK.
Church Boys will now meet Tribhuvan Army Club in the second semifinal on Thursday, while Jawalakhel Youth Club will play against Three Star Club in the first semifinal on Wednesday.
Jawalakhel defeated Manang Marshyangdi in the sudden death on Monday to book its place in the last four.
Manang and Nepal Police are the most successful sides in the Pokhara Gold Cup, with each team lifting the title six times. However, both these sides failed to make it to the semifinal this year.
Nepal Police was defeated by the same opponent in the Pokhara Gold Cup last year.
The final of the Pokhara Gold Cup will be played on Saturday. The winner will take home Rs 1.2 million, while the first runner-up will bag the check for Rs 600,000.
