Nepse stretches loss to fourth session; shares worth Rs 6.28 billion traded

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing streak for a fourth consecutive day on Monday. The benchmark shed 31.49 points to end the session at 2,098.69 points.

Despite an initial dip on Monday, the market recovered and reached an intra-day high of 2,134.24 points within first trading hour. However, the benchmark index failed to sustain the momentum and ultimately ended the day 1.47% lower.

Share prices of 209 companies declined on the day, while 36 advanced, and two remained unchanged. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd, which had been logging gains since its listing, posted its first loss of the day as its price fell by 5.14% to Rs 646 per unit. It, however, led the list of the highest turnovers of the day with Rs 786.38 million worth of shares traded. Next on the list were Ngadi Group Power Ltd and Api Power Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 310.13 million and Rs 242.73 million, respectively.

All trading groups, except for Trading, which posted a marginal gain of 0.35%, ended the day in the red. The maximum loss came from the Hydropower sub-index which was down by 2.24%. Next on the list were Microfinance and Investment sub-indices with losses of 1.91% and 1.85%, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 6.28 billion were traded on the bourse on Monday. This is the lowest turnover in the exchange in the past five sessions.
