Complaint filed against RSP Chair Lamichhane, GB Rai

KATHMANDU: A complaint has been lodged with the Department of Cooperatives against Rabi Lamichhane, the President of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), and GB Rai, Chairman of Gorkha Media Network – the operator of Galaxy TV.

Lamichhane is the former Managing Director of Gorkha Media Network.

“I am seeking the maximum punishment for Chairman GB Rai and then Managing Director Rabi Lamichhane, along with other directors of Gorkha Media Network for engaging in financial transactions that surpass the provisions of the Cooperatives Act,” states the complaint filed by Yubaraj Safal.

Safal is demanding that they be prosecuted under organized crime and has urged for the case to be referred to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police.

The promoters of Gorkha Media Network reportedly used funds collected from different savings and credit cooperatives to run a television network.

Safal had earlier filed a case against Lamichhane, alleging that he did not possess valid Nepali citizenship. Lamichhane, who was deputy prime minister at the time, was subsequently removed from office and his parliamentary seat for violating citizenship laws.

Lamichhane later officially applied for citizenship and was subsequently granted. He contested the by-poll for his parliamentary seat and was re-elected.
