KATHMANDU: The Nepali women’s national team is participating in the WAFF Women’s Championship to be held in Saudi Arabia from February 19-28.
Nepal is one of the invited sides to participate in the women’s football tournament of the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF). WAFF has also invited Guam to participate in the regional football tournament. The event is organized once every two or three years.
A meeting of the ANFA Executive Committee held on Tuesday took the decision.
Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, and Syria will participate in the tournament along with Nepal and Guam.
The eight teams will be divided into two groups of four teams each. The two best-performing teams from each group will qualify for the knockout phase.
Jordan is the most successful side in the WAFF Women’s Championship, having won five titles. Similarly, the UAE has lifted the title twice.
