KATHMANDU: Three Nepali films – Chitra, Parkhibasen Timilai, and Dhorpatan – were released in theaters on Friday. These three films will compete with two Indian films, Merry Christmas and Captain Miller, at the box office.
Chitra, directed by Ghanashyam Lamichhane, is a family drama. The film stars Santosh Adhikari, Pramod Agrahari, Arpan Thapa, Menuka Pradhan, Shubhechchha Khadka, Prakash Ghimire, Anjana Baraili, Simran Khadka, Ayushi Dhakal, Kumar Gurung, and Ujjwal Dhakal. Manish Gautam has written the screenplay and dialogues for the film. Santoshi Adhikari, who is making his acting debut with the film, is the producer of Chitra.
Parkhibasen Timilai, which is directed by Deepak Shrestha, stars debutant Kiran Shrestha and Raksha Budhathoki. Shiva Shrestha, Wilson Bikram Rai, Anisha Rasaili, and Sunita Shrestha, among others, have also acted in the film. The movie, which has also been filmed in the Indian state of Sikkim, is produced by Rajaram Budhathoki.
The weekend’s third Nepali release, Dhorpatan, is a documentary film. The documentary, which was shown in different film festivals in Europe and Asia as ‘No Winter Holidays,’ revolves around climate change and the life of women. The film is directed jointly by Rajan Kathayat and Sunir Pandey.
While Captain Miller, starring Dhanush, is a period film dating back to the British Raj, Merry Christmas is a crime thriller. Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif play lead roles in the Sriram Raghavan directorial.
