KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index gained 36.57 points to close at 2,059.49 points on Monday.
This is only the second occasion that the benchmark index posted gains in the past 10 sessions.
The unit prices of 213 scrips increased on the day, while 29 declined, and five remained unchanged. Share prices of eight companies, including Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd, which began trading on Monday, surged to the positive circuit of 10% on the day. Sonapur Oil and Minerals Ltd recorded the highest transaction of Rs 218.48 million on the day. Following closely on the list were Mountain Energy Nepal Ltd and Hathaway Investment Nepal Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 193.70 million and Rs 165.53 million, respectively.
Among sub-indices, all trading groups, excluding Mutual Fund, which posted a nominal loss of 0.01%, ended the day in the green. The maximum gain came from the Life Insurance sub-index, which increased by 3.72%. Following closely were the Hydropower and Investment sub-indices with gains of 2.81% and 2.61%, respectively.
Shares worth Rs 4.67 billion were traded on the bourse on Monday through 99,524 transactions.
