KATHMANDU: Police have arrested two teachers, including the headmaster, of Jorpati Secondary School in Panchkhal, on charges of sexually assaulting a female student.
The accused, Ganesh Man Gurung and Machhe Narayan Shrestha, allegedly took a ninth-grade student to a hotel and sexually assaulted her on October 28. Both individuals are currently under investigation, according to the District Police Office, Kavre. Gurung is the headmaster of the school.
Mahesh Kharel, mayor of Panchkhal University, said he came to know about the incident during the recent monitoring of schools under the municipality. “I received information about this heinous crime during a meeting with the chairman of the school management committee. It has been reported that two teachers from the school took the ninth-grader to a hotel, sexually assaulted her, and even offered her money,” Kharel stated.
Further investigation revealed that Headmaster Gurung had sent obscene messages to the girl on her mobile phone.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the school management committee, held recently in the presence of Mayor Kharel, suspended Headmaster Gurung and appointed an officiating headmaster.
Mayor Kharel has issued directives to headmasters of both community and private schools in the municipality to provide counseling services to eradicate all forms of violence, with a particular emphasis on preventing sexual assault and abuse.
