KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has underlined the need to strengthen the federal democratic republic system.
Inaugurating the party office of the Tanahun District Committee of NC in Damauli on Monday, Deuba said there is no alternative to a republic. On the occasion, he called for the cultivation of a culture of consensus and cooperation among political parties to strengthen the federal democratic republic system. “Forming an electoral coalition was a compulsion, not a choice. Given our constitutional provisions, it is challenging for any single political party to secure a majority in elections,” Deuba said. “The constitution is inclusive, and the possibility of a single majority is slim. The NC could emerge as the largest power through an electoral alliance.”
Former party general secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala, Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey, and central working committee members Shankar Bhandari, Pradeep Poudel, and Gobinda Bhattarai, among others, attended the inaugural ceremony.
