KATHMANDU: Laxmi Mahat Koiri, a suspended CPN-UML lawmaker who was acquitted of murder charges by the court, has submitted an application to the Federal Provincial Secretariat requesting the revocation of his suspension. Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire suspended him on May 2.

Officiating General Secretary of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Padam Prasad Pandeya, confirmed that the secretariat has received Koiri’s application.

In the application, Koiri has claimed that his suspension should be lifted since the Mahottari District Court has cleared him of the murder charges.

Koiri had been accused of dragging Assistant Sub Inspector Thaman BK from an ambulance and killing him on September 11, 2015. The Mahottari District Court had granted Koiri bail of Rs 100,000. However, the Janakpur High Court overturned the district court’s verdict, ordering him to remain in judicial custody until the final verdict is delivered by the district court.

The Mahottari District Court acquitted CPN-UML lawmaker Laxmi Mahato Koiri in the Assistant Sub Inspector Thaman BK murder case on December 14.

Koiri was elected to the House of Representatives from the Mahottari-1 constituency. He had been absconding since the high court announced its verdict. Despite being on the run, he attended the swearing-in ceremony of members of the House of Representatives.
