KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has expressed grave concerns about the party’s future, stating that it could face dissolution if it persists in forming alliances with communist forces.
Addressing a program in Kathmandu on Friday, Dr Koirala, who leads the anti-establishment faction of the party, said if alliances are deemed necessary for elections, they should be forged with democratic forces. “We should contemplate whether to form alliances before or after the election. If a coalition is unavoidable, we should align with democratic forces,” said Dr. Koirala. He said it imperative for the NC to undergo internal reform, asserting its democratic identity, and cautioned against populist tendencies that could jeopardize its longevity.
Addressing the prevailing dissatisfaction in the country, Dr Koirala said people are not against the system and are only expressing their frustrations. He called for corrective measures in the party’s conduct, behavior, and ambitions to address the underlying concerns.
