Nepse extends losing run to seventh straight session

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) continued its losing streak for a seventh straight session, dropping 10.10 points to close trading at 1,837.71 points on Tuesday.

The stock market opened for trading with the benchmark Nepse index at 1,849.01 points. Although the index dipped in the initial trading, it recovered to hit an intra-day high of 1,857.729 points. However, it lost momentum and eventually closed the day 0.54% lower.

The benchmark index has lost over 70 points in the past seven sessions.

Except for the Life Insurance sub-index, which posted a nominal gain of 0.16%, all other trading groups posted losses on the day. The highest loss came from the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index, which was down by 2.57%, followed by Hotels & Tourism and Trading sub-indices, which were down by 1.71% and 1.11%, respectively.

Unit prices of 62 scrips increased on the day, while 161 declined, and 14 remained unchanged. Mountain Energy Nepal Ltd registered the highest turnover of the day, with Rs 362.95 million traded. Next on the list were Citizen Life Insurance and NRN Infrastructure and Development Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 81.82 million and Rs 57.84 million, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 1.54 billion were traded on the bourse on Tuesday. Market capitalization reached Rs 2.83 trillion on the day.
