KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially confirmed the tragic loss of six Nepali individuals while serving in the Russian Army.
Issuing a statement on Monday, the ministry identified the fallen youths as Sandeep Thapaliya (Gorkha), Rupak Karki (Kapilvastu), Dewan Rai (Kaski), Pitam Karki (Syangja), Raj Kumar Rokka (Dolakha), and Gangaraj Moktan (Ilam).
“The ministry has requested the Russian government for urgent repatriation of the dead bodies to Nepal and provide compensation for the bereaved families,” the statement said.
Additionally, the ministry has urged the Russian authorities to refrain from recruiting Nepali nationals into their army and to facilitate the return of Nepali citizens serving, if any, in the Russian army.
It also said diplomatic efforts were underway to secure the release of Bibek Khatri who is currently detained by Ukrainian authorities.
