KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said on Sunday that the government will ‘internationalize’ problems that Nepal is facing due to climate change.
Speaking at a program in Maikot, Rukum East, Dahal said that Nepal’s contribution to climate change is minimal, yet it is facing severe consequences. “The support that we are receiving from climate fund is not sufficient. Nepal is in need of greater international assistance,” he said, adding that he has instructed officials to prepare documentation to seek additional aid.
Dahal also said United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, on his request, visited the Himalayan region and observed the impacts of climate change up close. “Countries like Nepal, which are suffering from the impacts of climate change, should be compensated by the international community. It is their right,” he added.
