KATHMANDU: Saima Wazed has been elected as the Regional Director at the Southeast Asia Regional office of the World Health Organization (WHO).
In a vote during a closed meeting of member countries in New Delhi on Wednesday, Wazed secured eight votes, while Dr. Shambhu Acharya of Nepal received two votes.
Wazed is the daughter of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, while Dr. Acharya has been serving as the Director of Country Strategy at WHO headquarters in Geneva.
