KATHMANDU: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday night for his official four-day visit to Nepal. Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud welcomed Gueterres at the Tribhuvan International Airport. A troop of the Nepal Army offered Guterres a guard of honor at the airport itself.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Secretary-General Guterres will hold courtesy meetings with President Ram Chandra Paudel and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Additionally, Guterres will hold discussions with former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and former Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli. Likewise, he will hold separate meetings scheduled with Deputy Prime Ministers Purna Bahadur Khadka and Narayankaji Shrestha.

Following these engagements, he will explore the historic and archaeologically significant Patan Durbar area.

On Sunday evening, Prime Minister Dahal will host a dinner with a cultural program in honor of Secretary-General Guterres. During his visit, Guterres will also tour Namche Bazaar, Pokhara, Annapurna Base Camp, and Lumbini on Monday.

Guterres will address the joint session of the Federal Parliament at 4 pm on Tuesday.
