KATHMANDU: The Indian government has permitted the export of 95,000 tons of non-basmati rice to Nepal.
In a notification issued on Wednesday, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said such exports would be through National Cooperative Exports.
Amending its export policy, the DGFT said the export will be allowed on the basis of permission granted by the government to other countries to meet their food security needs and based on the request of their government.
India has allowed rice exports to six other countries – Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, the Republic of Guinea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Seychelles.
India imposed a ban on the export of non-basmati white rice on July 20.
