KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition has agreed to form the government in Koshi Province under the leadership of CPN (Maoist Center).

The consensus was reached during a meeting of the senior leaders of the ruling coalition held in Baluwatar on Thursday morning.

Maoist Center sources say its parliamentary party leader in Koshi Province Assembly, Indra Angbo, will make a claim for government formation very soon.

Province Chief Parshuram Khapung has asked political parties to make a claim for government formation as per Article 168 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, by 5 pm on Friday.

Maoist Center sources say Angbo is holding talks with leaders of CPN-UML and Rastriya Prajatantra Party. Angbo is trying to win the support of RPP or UML to secure a comfortable majority in the province assembly.

CPN-UML is the largest party in the province assembly with 40 members in the 93-member province assembly. Likewise, the ruling coalition has 47 seats – Nepali Congress (NC) has 29, Maoist Center has 13, RPP CPN (Unified Socialist) has four, and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has one.

Chief Minister Hikmat Bahadur Karki tendered his resignation on Saturday before taking a floor test.
