KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party President Ravi Lamichhane has demanded that the government inform the parliament about the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Kalapani area.

“We have received reports that Indian Prime Minister Modi visited Nepali territory this morning. When the leader of a neighboring country visits our land, it is essential for the government to extend a welcome and keep the parliament informed about the visit,” Lamichhane said, speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday.

According to Indian media reports, Modi, accompanied by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, paid a visit to the Kalapani area on Thursday morning.

“Kalapani lies within Nepali territory, as clearly depicted on the map included in our constitution. Therefore, the Minister for Foreign Affairs should provide the necessary information regarding this visit to the parliament.”

Lamichhane also said he earlier called Chief District Officer (CDO) of Darchula to get information about the visit. “The CDO told me they are not allowed to go to Kalapani and that he heard about the visit from media,” the RSP President said

Nepal amended its constitution on June 13, 2020, to incorporate a revised administrative map, which reaffirmed its sovereignty over Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiyadhura, areas that had previously been under India’s administration.
