Two held with counterfeit banknotes in Itahari

ITAHARI: Police have apprehended two individuals in possession of counterfeit banknotes.

According to the Area Police Office, Itahari, Bibek Rai from Panchpakhan-5 and Ajaya Rai from Makalu-6 of Sankhuwasabha were arrested with counterfeit banknotes totaling Rs 1.58 million.

“We detained the two individuals in the main market area of Itahari based on a tip-off,” DSP Tek Bahadur Karki said. “We have begun further investigation into the case.”

Police have secured a seven-day remand for the two individuals.

SP Bipin Regmi, chief of the District Police Office, Sunsari, said that the police were examining the potential involvement of additional individuals in the counterfeit currency operation. “Preliminary findings indicate that they have been circulating counterfeit notes printed in Kathmandu in various cities within the Koshi Province,” he added. “We are collaborating with the Kathmandu police to apprehend the mastermind behind this racket.”
